Preparation before tiling
Make sure your wall, floor or ceiling is clean and smooth before you begin your project as this will really make a difference when you begin tiling. DIY amateur tilers are advised to measure good quality glass and quartz tiles twice - this way they're less likely to make mistakes and waste money. When tiling bathrooms, remember to cover the drain so debris won't fall down the sink/bath and cause an unwanted blockage.
Tiles throughout history
The history of tiles is quite interesting and probably much longer than you'd expect - the first clay roof tiles were produced in 700-650 BC. The original clay tiles were made by hand. Historical timelines show tile manufacturing only became mechanised in 1840 with a process called "dust-pressing". Nowadays new materials, such as glass, are becoming increasingly popular in the tiling industry thanks to the contemporary look they bring to any home.
