A spectacular new 5 metre high sculpture made of tiles has been unveiled in Wales.
The Llanbradach Follies sculpture in Caerphilly county is made up of two 5 metre towers covered in 2,000 brightly coloured tiles. Each of the tiles is individually decorated and based on local history, culture or stories in the area. The work of art has been created by artist Kay Aplin who wanted to create a focal point for the village.
The local community have been heavily involved in creating the final design, with some of their original ideas set into the work. Kay originally started the sculpture 18 months ago as part of the redevelopment project in the area and is her biggest work to date.
The Llanbradach Follies sculpture was unveiled last month and stands on the main High Street.
Llanbradach Councillor Colin Mann said; “The follies represent the finishing touch to the regeneration work in the centre of Llanbradach which has been ongoing for several years now. We are grateful to all the people who have worked very hard to bring about this improvement to our village.”
The work was funded by Llanbradach and Pwllypant partnership, The Arts Council of Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council and was project managed by Caerphilly Arts Development.
