Order not up to scratch for Marco Historical Museum tile mosaic

The Marco Island History Museum in Florida was all set to receive a new tile mural but the volunteer workers were dismayed to discover that they had got the wrong tiles.

George and Carol Engstrom, Alan and Linda Sandlin and Craig Woodward all volunteered to take part in the project yet they could not complete the work until the right tiles had been delivered. This set the project back some time and proved to be very inconvenient.

The tiles were to be part of an enormous mural, which would have depicted an original painting that was created by the famous artist Paul Arsenault. However, the plans for the mural have been put on hold until 720 new eight-inch by eight-inch tiles can be delivered.

The idea for the mural began as a way to create a museum centrepiece and also a way to raise money from the visitors, which would have even able to buy their own tiles for a cost of $100.

Member of the board of directors Patty Carnes, commented on the situation; “The colours were not up to expectations. Paul is known for his use of colour and his painting glows with brilliant colour.

Ms. Carnes then contacted the tile manufacturer and the owner gracefully agreed to replace the tiles with a more vibrant selection, which should be more suitable for the mural.

She added, “It takes time to process, coat and fire them, but we have been waiting. Hopefully, we’ll get it up and beautiful by the time people come back.
