Claire Thomson, of Cross Road, Maldon, has reached the final eighteen of a mosaic tiling competition and stands to win her own art commission.
Although only a novice, Ms. Thompson is very enthusiastic about her tiled artwork and is hoping to progress even further in the competition.
In fact, she has only just completed a beginner’s course in mosaic tiling; a course that was held by local artist Anne Schwegmann-Fielding.
Ms. Schwegmann-Fielding said that she was really impressed with Claire’s performance in the competition and that she showed real talent.
Making it to the final eighteen is even more surprising as over 250 artists entered the competition from various locations across the country.
Now the judges have to review the tile mosaics and Claire’s friends and families are eager to see how far she will go. She is already in the top eighteen and some believe she can make it all the way and win the coveted prize of a mosaic commission.
However, there is more to the commission than meets the eyes as it is of a tile mosaic, which once completed will go on display at a leading tile distributor in Leicester.
Although the competition is still underway Ms Thompson has already been awarded for her performance and for getting so far in the competition. She has received a certificate and cheque to the value of £100.
Her tutor, who also entered the competition, has received a certificate and a cash prize to pay for her supplies.
At present contestants are awaiting the response of the judges, which should be announced later this month.
